When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let It Be was the Beatles final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band. McCartney said he had the idea of Let It Be after he had a dream about his mother (who died of cancer when he was fourteen) during the tense period when the Beatles were recording ‘The White Album’. His mother had told him, "It will be alright, just let it be."
This song’s lyrics have given me great comfort over the years. When I feel overwhelmed, sad or anxious about a situation I listen to the sage advice of McCartney’s mother and feel at ease with the world again.
